The Diary of Parallel Serendipity

A few days have passed, and I still can’t get that bird—my silent visitor—out of my mind.

I kept wondering if she was still alive… and why she came. She was Mila’s favourite bird. Mila used to look for them every day during her walks. Was she looking for her?

So I went looking for the bird—with my camera in hand and Mila in my thoughts. It wasn’t easy. She hides well, blending perfectly into her surroundings. But I didn’t give up.

Eventually, I saw something strange in the grass. It didn’t look like a bird—but I zoomed in, and there she was. Her head was up, alert, watching me. I took a video, but it didn’t turn out.

So, I went back just a few minutes later.

Same spot. I couldn’t see her at first. But I zoomed in again… and there she was. This time, her head was down, but her eyes were open. As if she knew I’d come back, and was trying to disappear.

And I wondered:

What Happens If You Touch a Bush Stone-curlew?

She’d leap up. Shriek. Burst into motion.
Stone-curlews freeze when afraid—but they’re not frozen. If touched, they react fast. They rely on camouflage, but when that fails, they escape in a flash—sometimes even pretending to be injured to draw danger away.

Stillness isn’t weakness.
It’s survival.

Final Thought

She wasn’t dead.
She wasn’t lost.
She was just hiding—waiting.
Some things in life are like that.
