From my upcoming book, The Diary of Parallel Serendipity
When I shared this part of my story with Mila, I warned her it was going to be hard to hear.
But it’s a memory that shaped me—one that begins with unexpected friendship and ends in a way I never saw coming.
Trouble and Breaking Bonds
At our next meeting, I warned Mila, “This is a very sad and confronting story, but unfortunately, it’s true.” One day, the loud clucking from the chickens caught my attention, drawing me into a scene I’ll never forget. It marked the tragic end of a long friendship. My beloved dog, my loyal companion, had accidentally caused a heartbreaking event. The memory of that day has stayed with me, a reminder that even the best relationships can have hidden complexities.
Mila’s face softened, her voice tender. “Alex, that must have been so hard. Losing a friend like that, especially in such a way… I can’t even imagine.”
“It’s something I’ll never forget,” I continued, my voice heavy with emotion. “What started as innocent curiosity turned into tragedy! My dog, just being curious, ended up killing one of our chickens. When my mother came home, she saw the dead chicken and my dog’s face covered in blood.”
Mila’s eyes were full of empathy. “Oh, Alex, that poor dog. He was just acting on instinct, wasn’t he?”
“I don’t think he meant to harm the chicken—maybe he was just hungry,” I replied, feeling the sadness wash over me again. “In a sudden wave of shock and grief, my mother rushed to the shed and came back with an axe. I was terrified and wanted to run, thinking the axe was meant for me…”
What happened next stayed with me for the rest of my life.
It’s one of many moments in my story where love, fear, and memory collide—and where even the smallest creature can change everything.
